A CH-53, presumably in Afghanistan, lifts a CH-47, then has to jettison it when the load gets out of control.

I did a sling load of a HMMWV in Afghanistan during my "incentive ride" on a CH-47. It's really wild to feel the whole aircraft rocking even when the load was only swinging about 2-3 feet in either direction. Something that large though, it's like trying to lift the damn dump truck in GTA:V. Once it starts swinging, you're better off dropping it our you're going down.

The comment section on that video on YT is a real sight to behold.

Also, that situation sure escalated. Hopefully no injuries.

They seemed to be flying away in quite a hurry. Might have been a hot area, don't know. "Incentive ride"? What does that mean?

F yo compound. Looks like he might've obliterated that rear wall.

I didn't watch with sound either, but you think they were just taking out the trash and dropping it off at the dump?

To protect my mental health, I make it a rule not to read YT comments. And yes, hopefully everybody was safe. The Chinook came damned close to that house.

Audio was just a Metallica song, and there was no description. My guess is that they intended to take it back to the rear somewhere, and they had to dump it before they crashed.

Usually an incentive ride is given for winning an award, or some other job related item. They are also usually done in a fighter and not in a warzone. My ride was made possible because the pilot was a former USAF SrA (E-4) that went "Blue to Green" and became a Warrant Officer. He met some friends of mine working out in the gym and ended up giving a couple of rides during standard re-supply missions. The one I went on was supposed to be a quick 2 hour flight. We ended up flying a 6.2, which calculates to 6 hours and 7-12 minutes.

Thanks for the explanation. I would have enjoyed either the fighter or the helo!

Well, this was around the time when "Uncle Al" was getting good at shooting down helos in Iraq & Afghanistan. In fact, as we were flying through a valley, the crew chief said to the gunner (I was on comms with the crew and flew in the jump seat between the pilots), "Hey, remind me to show you where that fucker shot at me last time we came through." This was followed a short time later by the 240s being racked into position on their perches.
